Travels By Trike
United States
Приєднався 29 чер 2017
Every day is about living the possible. Since 2007, I've cycled on 6 continents and over 20 countries. Now, after 3 years of RV life, I'm headed back out with just my trike for a 9,000 mile trike tour around the USA. I love experiencing how people live in all areas of the world. For me, it's always the people I meet that make a trip memorable. Join me on my travels.

San Antonio Trike Tour with Friends, Dave and Edna
Переглядів 760Місяць тому
In early April I did a RV trip with triking friends, Dave and Edna. We drove to Texas to see the eclipse. On the way we stopped in San Antonio for a few days to ride the River Walk. We also did a wonderful tour with Steve Wood and his San Antonio Bike Tour. We opted for the 3-hour tour and followed Steve riding his WAW velomobile all over San Antonio. He has trikes to rent for the tours but we ...
Explaining the End of the Moto Myrtle USA Trike Tour
Переглядів 3,3 тис.5 місяців тому
I have wanted to make this video for many months. It probably feels like I ended the Moto-Myrtle USA Trike Tour very abruptly. In many ways it did. In this video I explain what happened. Mostly, I wanted to make a video to thank everyone for your support. The recumbent and triking communities are incredibly generous. Without your enthusiasm, I would have ended this tour much earlier. This was, ...
Mapping a Route for the Winter Escape Recumbent Rally Feb 8-12th in SoCal.

I did a ride from Lake Cahuilla Campground with Harry, Trevor and Graham. These guys all work at Tri-A-Bike in Palm Desert which is hosting the Winter Escape Recumbent Rally, Feb 8-12th. Temps were in the mid-70s with bright blue skies and we were riding in short sleeves. We did a nice 30-mile ride mapping a route to have lunch at the polo grounds. If you would like to attend the rally, call Ha...

Day 66 - End of the Road in Rural Retreat
Переглядів 2,1 тис.6 місяців тому
Today's ride ended much differently than I thought it would when I started cycling from the Pioneer Family campground in the morning. This is a big emotional day for me. I am completely exhausted from not sleeping well while camping and riding on roads with no shoulder. The smoke from the wildfires is also affecting my health. I had been thinking about ending the tour for the last few days and ...
Day 65 - Camping in Max Meadows, VA
Переглядів 9166 місяців тому
By this point in the tour, I am thoroughly exhausted and suspect that flipping my trike took more out of me than I wanted to admit at the time. I tend to focus on the positive and, sometimes, listening to what is bothering me would probably be helpful as well. Today's ride was a challenging 47 miles with 3400 ft of climbing on beautiful Virginia country roads. Music: Blue Sky Blues, Peter Crosb...
Day 64 - Big Climbs to Christiansburg, VA

I had a few things on my mind as I went to sleep last night under the shelter in a city park. One, there is an active train line 50 ft away and two, how would my ribs feel in the morning after flipping my trike earlier in the day. Luckily, the train didn't run overnight and my ribs felt better in the morning. Today's ride was 52 miles with 3700 ft of climbing to Christiansburg, VA. Music: Epide...
Day 63 - Big Mistake on the Ride to Troutville, VA
Переглядів 1,8 тис.6 місяців тому
After 3 nights of waiting out a storm, I got back on the Trans Am Bike Route. Leaving Lexington, VA, I did something really stupid after reading the map incorrectly. I turned the wrong way on a one-way street into oncoming traffic. Luckily, the cars saw me and stopped. I didn't understand what was happening and ended up flipping the trike. Somehow, there was no damage to the trike, e-assist, or...
Day 62 - Blue Ridge Parkway to Lexington, VA
Переглядів 9057 місяців тому
Today's ride includes one of the most dreaded hills on the entire Trans Am Bike Route. Lucky me, it will be a steeply graded 4,000 ft descent into the town of Vesuvius. I pulled over twice to let my disc brake rotors cool on the way down. Again today, I can feel the wildfire smoke in my throat and my eyes are burning. In fact, today I could actually smell the smoke. This smoke is from wildfires...
Day 61 Blue Ridge Parkway to Love, VA
Переглядів 9737 місяців тому
Today's ride was 20 miles with 2700 ft of climbing. It was the Friday before Memorial Day weekend. I wanted to get where I was going early before the road was crowded with RVs and trucks pulling trailers. There was lots of smoke from the fires burning in Canada but the ride was gorgeous with stunning views looking down on the Shenandoah Valley. I ended the day at a brand-new campground. Music: ...
Day 60 The Cookie Lady's House in Afton, VA
Переглядів 1 тис.7 місяців тому
There is still smoke haze in the air from the fires burning in Alberta, Canada. Such a long way for the smoke to travel!! I can feel the smoke in my throat and eyes. More traffic today on shoulderless roads. There were also lots of 10-14% climbs. The day's highlight was getting to the Cookie Lady's House in Afton, VA. This may be the most famous stop on the Trans Am Bike Route. June Curry, aka ...
Day 59 - Highland House, Montecello and Charlottesville, VA

Beautiful day for a trike ride on, mostly, quiet Virginia country roads. I had no idea that Presidents Monroe and Jefferson's homes would be on the route. 28 miles with 1700 ft of climbing. Myrtle's Merch store is open!! 🥰💥 🎂 💞💥🍾 Purchase Travels By Trike merch to show love for your favorite turtle: myrtles-merch.creator-spring.com/ Would you like to join me on my tours whether traveling with m...
Day 58 - Trans Am to Palmyra, VA

Easy ride today. A bit breezy and overcast. I rode from a firehouse where I camped in Mineral to a Methodist Church in Palmyra, VA. 37 miles with 1600 ft of climbing. The only hiccup was a 6-mile detour around an, unexpectedly, closed bridge. Beautiful ride on quiet roads. Music: Enzally and Blue Wednesday Myrtle's Merch store is open!! 🥰💥 🎂 💞💥🍾 Purchase Travels By Trike merch to show love for ...
Day 57 - Getting on the Trans America Bike Route 76 to Mineral, VA. Heading west!

This was a momentous ride! I started the day leaving my KOA campsite near Fredericksburg and ended the day in Mineral to camp behind a firehouse. This ride was the turn around point for my tour. I am now on the Trans America Bike Route 76 heading west, heading home! 69 miles with 2500 ft of climbing, Music: Card House Myrtle's Merch store is open!! 🥰💥 🎂 💞💥🍾 Purchase Travels By Trike merch to sh...

Love this ride, can’t believe I haven’t watched this one yet either, I remember you mentioning this poem in another vid it was so nice he made a poem about you!!
@@TheSouthernTriker very fun day, thanks!
Very nice ride, idk why I haven’t watched this one before oh well I’m watching it now lol
@@TheSouthernTriker this is my favorite ride at TOT.
How did this really work out because I want to take a trip home to the Bay Area and want to take my trike but I’m very unsure how this would work?
Great fun to re-watch that ride Sylvia!
Thanks Glenn - Scott will be missed!
Wonder how he did his batts behind the Scorpion seat? ‘Course if it was a Premium seat, it blocks the built-in pockets …
Just loooove these Portland rides !!!!❤ little chilly for my taste, but love to try it some day
Come for a visit anytime!
This is one of my favorite videos of yours, loved how you met some other recumbent riders and made a connection. Very nice scenery as well, love that bridge.
Thank you very much! I busted a camera on this ride, haha!
20 seconds in and I'm alrteady contemplating suicide. find a new career because youtube clearly isn't it lady.
“Privy first, and then trouble…” a rule I try to live by…. Did that this Morning, when going to the store. Legs still achy from this morning’s ride. Pedaled most of the way there and back, 25 mile round trip - was moving, too.
Beautiful ride with friends and an awesome video. Thanks for sharing! Hope you are well.
Thanks, Mark!!
Rode part of that trail earlier this month, from 182nd to 155th or so. I’ve ridden from its start near the river to the park in Gresham. Yes, the park shown a bit past the middle of the vid. The picnic shelter near the trail has at least one electrical outlet, for charging if your battery/batteries need it!
Looks like old Americans food stamps
It sure was them!! Started when i noticed they had same flag!
Randy's trike is quite the rig! Especially the steering. Good video.
Thanks!!
Nice ride with the gang! Loved it! The new pup made it even better. Happy striking!
Thanks!!☺️
Hi Sylvia, this is Tom. That was a great ride, I'm so glad Edna put it together. It was great meeting you, Dan and Bill for the first time. Hopefully we see you all at Trikefest next weekend.
Great riding with you!
Nice
Great ride on the Sweetwater Trail... Wow, Bill is riding at 97 years old. I want to be like Bill in 27 years or when I grow up! 😂 I'm looking forward to meeting Dan Zimmerman when he returns to Lancaster County, Pa. in September 2024. Thanks for sharing your ride with us ,Sylvia... Keep on Triking!
Thanks, Tom!!
So nice to see another video! Nice ride. You look and sound great.
Many thanks, Joanne!
Seems like it's been a while since you posted anything. Nice to see you again with great takes on the bent world
Yes, I took a break for a few months. Thanks for following along.
Nice ride Sylvia. Thanks for taking us along too. Cutest little doggo! 😊
Thanks, Tim! Enjoy your tour!
@@TravelsByTrike thanks. I am so far... 😉👍
Nice ride! Love seeing all the nice trails and friendly folks!
Thanks, Captn.
Great ride! Like that sun visor and the puppy that rides-a-long.
Thanks 👍, Gary for following along!
I love these Pacific NW rides you do. Love your guys trails over that way, it’s on my list of places to ride someday. Wish I could be at trike fest!! Was good seeing Lonny Edna and Dave and omg Bill being 97 and still riding I totally want to be able to reach 97 and still be out riding ❤
Yes, thanks! I want to be Bill at 97. Come for a visit anytime.
I got a question for you Sylvia are there any ride groups in Georgia
I don’t know of any. What I do is search on Facebook. It seems all the groups are on Facebook. I bet there is one in Georgia. If not, start one!
So great to see you out riding happy and healthy again! Gorgeous ride with friends. What could be better! Best wishes and keep posting and I’m waiting for you to visit us on Cape Cod.
Have not gone east on the corridor yet on my tifly have done it on my 2 wheeler back in the day and agree its a nice ride
PNWRC has regular rides posted to their fb page weekly.
I am trying to find the trike stand. Could you provide the name/place to buy the stand. Thanks. Met some folks on the trail in Minnesota who you traveled with up North and they shared they enjoyed the experience .Thanks for the many helpful hints.
I found it very n Amazon. I didn’t keep it and don’t remember the brand.
You probably met Bonnie and John- great people!
Where did you get your Shimano E8000 for the HP Velotechnic Scorpion?
I got it from HP directly.
What trike are you using?
I ride an HP Velotechnik fs20 with the Shimano Steps E8000 e-assist and Rohloff Speedhub.
My goodness! First time watching your videos. My !! You are one brave soldier.
Thanks for following along. There's always another tour.
Nice video. I use the Terra Cycle heel straps and like them but due to hot foot I want to move my foot further forward on the pedal and the strap doesn’t fit real well. I have to ask, how does a strap across the toe of your shoe help to retain the heel and keep your foot from slipping off or out of the pedal?
Thanks, Lenny. Pedal straps don’t help retain the heel but they are tight enough across the top of the foot to keep it secure on the pedal. Keep on trikin’.
Great to see you back. What have you been up to?
Thanks Rob!
nevermind, i'll keep riding my regular hybrid bike, don't need leg suck at 68 years old, at least if i fell off my bike i'm flung free from it, seems a better option
Thanks for sharing this very interesting tour. I hope to get down there in the spring of next year to take one of his tours. So happy to see posting again.
Many thanks!🙏
St. Antonio's River Walk is beautiful... Thank you for taking us along on your tour! It's nice to see you vlogging on UA-cam again... Keep on Triking!
Many thanks, Tom!
Sylvia, Good to hear your voice again. I kept thinking about those riders that don't pay attention and wandering all over the bike paths. One wouldn't want to have a wet experience in the absence of any hand railings. Be well and stay safe, bf
Thanks, my friend!
Sylvia, what video camera do you use again?
I used the Osmo Pocket 3 with DJI mic 2 for this video.
Awesome to see you again! I loved San Antonio when I lived there many years ago. The river walk is awesome.
Thank you!!
Great to see your video. You were gone too long.
Thank you, Barbara!
Omg a new video I have been waiting for sooooooo long in anticipation!!!!
Thank you so much!
Great to see you back again. Missed you.
Many thanks!
Great tour Sylvia. I've always wanted to join up. BTW, you sound great on the DJI mic! Looks like it works well in the wind.
Thanks, Charles! Yes, I love how the Mic 2 auto-connects to the Pocket 3.
Looks like we need to make our way to TX and take the tour! Really glad to see you back on YT, missed your vid's😊 All the best!
Thanks Ondos!
Good to see you on a video again, Sylvia!
Thanks, my friend!
Excelente video
Muchas gracias!
Finally, a video where I can say, "been there, seen that"!
Haha, it's a fun place to ride.
I was just thinking that you had gone quiet. Great to see you again on camera.😃
Thanks, Paul!
it's lovely there.. Sylvia. when will you be back in Portland?
I'll be passing through Portland in another 2 weeks. Looking forward to seeing the tribe.
